Roots Radics
Studio band
- Kingston, Jamaica
- 1978 onwards
The band that replaced the Revolutionaries as the default studio group at the turn of the 1980s, and slowed everything down.
Where rockers drives, the Radics drag: everything sits behind the beat, the bass lines are simpler and heavier, and there is far more space. That space is why Scientist’s records from the period sound the way they do. Give an engineer a busy track and dub becomes a fight; give them this and every decision is audible.
Style Scott’s drumming is the centre of it.
