Moritz von Oswald and Mark Ernestus came to dub from techno, having already spent years stripping house music down to its bass and its space under the Basic Channel name.

As Rhythm & Sound they went further toward the source: slow, enormous, almost static rhythms, cut in Berlin and voiced by Jamaican singers including Cornell Campbell and Willi Williams. With the Artists collects those vocal sides.

Purists argue about whether it is dub or something else wearing its clothes. It is at minimum the most serious attempt anyone in Europe has made to work the same way rather than to imitate the sound.

Twelve dub records, in order

A route through dub itself rather than through reggae: twelve albums in sequence, from the first tentative experiments to the point where the method left Jamaica altogether.
