Jah Shaka

Jah Shaka ran the most uncompromising sound in Britain for the best part of fifty years. One turntable, one amplifier stack, no second selector, and a session that was closer to a service than a party.

The approach was deliberate. Playing one tune at a time on one deck means every record has to earn its place, and the gaps between them are part of the event. He cut his own dubplates, released records on his own label, and refused more or less every attempt to make the operation bigger than it was.

He died in 2023. The style he built is still the reference point for British roots.
