Horace Andy
Singer
- Kingston, Jamaica
- 1960s onwards
Horace Hinds has one of the most recognisable voices in the music: high, slightly frail, and able to make a plain line sound like a warning. He cut Skylarking at Studio One in the early 1970s and has been working more or less continuously ever since.
Younger listeners often arrive at him sideways, through his long association with Massive Attack, whose records he has sung on since the beginning. That is a fine way in. What it does not prepare you for is the depth of the catalogue behind it.
