Bunny "Striker" Lee

Edward O’Sullivan Lee produced at a pace that seems impossible now, and a great deal of what he made was very good. He worked fast, recycled rhythms without embarrassment, and had a genius for putting the right singer in front of the right track.

He is closely tied to King Tubby, whose room mixed a large part of his output, and to the Aggrovators, the loose band behind an enormous number of his sessions. The flying cymbal sound, a hissing open hi-hat pattern that ran through the mid 1970s, came out of his studio.

Lee talked about this history for decades and was one of the best sources on it. He died in 2020.
