Twelve dub records, in order
A route through dub itself rather than through reggae: twelve albums in sequence, from the first tentative experiments to the point where the method left Jamaica altogether.
Group
A collaboration between the percussionist Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah and the producer Adrian Sherwood, built out of a half joke about a psychedelic Africa that never existed.
What came of it is one of the strangest bodies of work in the On-U catalogue: hand percussion, tape loops, found voices and enormous amounts of processing, assembled into something closer to a place than a song. My Life in a Hole in the Ground is the usual entry point and still the most disorientating.
It is dub in method rather than in genre, which is the argument for taking dub seriously as a way of working.
